We had an amazing day with Celise today! She was in such a good mood, and clearly feeling a lot better. The doctors placed an abdominal drain in her side this weekend and they’ve been able to get a lot of fluid off of her belly. As a result, they’ve also been able to wean her vent settings even more. The ventilator is currently giving her 10 breaths per minute, and she’s taking an additional 20 breaths per minute on her own! She does still have a lot of fluid on her lungs so she still needs help with volumes, but this is an incredible achievement and she’s getting closer and closer to extubation everyday! Occupational Therapy also stopped in and taught us how to give her a lymphatic massage, and she thoroughly enjoyed her spa treatment! She even gave us her first real smile! There will still be many ups and downs to come, but today was probably the best day we’ve had with her. Check out the videos below for her first smile and nuzzling into head pets!
