Our baby girl is a FIGHTER! Celise had some really rough days at the start of the week, and it was truly terrifying. Such a long journey can be grueling for an adult, let alone a tiny newborn who is already dealing with so much. She had quite a number of setbacks: her blood pressure kept dropping, she needed 100% oxygen on the ventilator, and worst of all was some pretty extreme fluid retention leading to her whole body being so swollen she was barely recognizable. She was so unstable that the doctors couldn’t even take her for a CT scan so they could plan the next steps.

But under the excellent care of her doctors and nurses at MUSC, she has been making major improvements every day. As the nurses said, “she’s very opinionated, but she’s doing exactly what we’re asking of her.” To anyone who knows me, having an opinionated daughter should come as no surprise!

She’s starting to stabilize her blood pressure on her own again, and they’re beginning to lower her ventilator settings back to where they were. And she’s been peeing up a storm, which is exactly what she needs to do in order to reduce her swelling. They were finally able to take her for the CT scan, and we’re just waiting for a few more test results before the doctors can determine the game plan moving forward. And the best part is she got to have her first proper bath! Despite the sedation she lets the nurses know what she does and doesn’t like, and she definitely does like the bath! So for today, we are thankful for her improvements and enjoying her thick, soft curls. And as always, we are so thankful for your continued support and prayers!
